So, you want to know what's happened so far? Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

In 2002, there was a breach of Reikai security. Two of Sensui’s minions, Doctor and Sniper, took down security to allow their fallen leader to escape. During the melee, a number of dangerous and deceased beings escaped. These include Karasu, Kuronue, and Sensui himself.

Sensui caused trouble at first but appears to have gone slightly insane (even more so than before). Itsuki, no longer able to be close to him, has taken to visiting Ningenkai more often even on a friendlier basis with the Tantei.

Karasu and Kuronue discovered they both had the same interest in Kurama. Though Kuronue was at first skeptical of Karasu’s ways, he joined him in Yomi’s kingdom where he learned to enjoy the things that Karasu brings into his relationships. They have been a steady couple since this time.

As Sensui caused trouble, stress levels in Reikai were at an all time high. KoEnma was panicking because no one was catching the problem demons and his tail was on the line. He took his frustrations out on those who worked closest to him, causing him to lose ferrygirls and Reikai investigators who were being mistreated. Botan was the first to relocate to Ningenkai, followed by Sayaka and later Hinageshi.

In the Makai, the sudden freedom was enjoyed by some demons who decided to emigrate to the Ningenkai. Shishiwakamaru was the first to come, and he was soon followed by Jin. Eventually Touya, Suzuki, Juri, Koto, and Rinku came to reside in the Ningenkai.

Yuusuke and Hiei moved freely between the two worlds. Yuusuke assisted Raizen in running his country. Raizen, who was now free to come back to the Makai, decided it was his turn for a vacation and tried to pass off his job in its entirety to his protégée. Yuusuke fought him tooth and nail and the two now share the responsibilities. Hiei assists Mukuro and visits Ningenkai to help Yukina, who discovered that he is her brother, when necessary.

When Sensui escaped the Reikai, the Tantei--specifically Hiei, Yuusuke, and Kuwabara (as Kurama was visiting with Kuronue and trying to put off the affections of Karasu)--were sent to the Makai look for him. After a long, fruitless search, they gave up, but not before the relationship between Hiei and Yuusuke progressed to an intimate level, though both viewed it as casual sex. Keiko became very upset and refused to see Yuusuke for a long time, hurt by his violation of her trust. She is now settling back into the role of being Yuusuke’s childhood friend again.

Despite the end of their mission, the boys continued to avoid the Ningenkai, angering Shizuru and Atsuko and worrying Yukina. When Yuusuke and Kuwabara finally came home, they were greeted by punishment in the form of being forced to crossdress. Atsuko and Shizuru amused themselves by forcing the boys into dresses and makeup and dragging them to a transgendered bar. Mukuro was amused, and they planned a repeat of the event, since she wanted to punish Hiei for shirking his duties. Genkai supplied an ingenious invention that made this possible--a slave collar that restricts the wearer’s ki.

Following this humiliation, Hiei and Yuusuke fled to the Makai, with Hiei still wearing the collar. He returned to the Ningenkai so it could be removed. However, Karasu had been intrigued by the journal entries regarding all of these events, and he and Kuronue stole the collar and captured Yuusuke. The other tantei immediately began a search and rescue mission, but Yuusuke was captive for about a month before he was left for the tantei to find, broken and abused--a shell of what he once was. Hiei nursed him back to some semblance of help and the two began a full-fledged relationship.

Kuwabara was angry with Shizuru and blamed her for Yuusuke’s kidnapping, and had essentially told her she was no longer his sister. During this time, Shizuru blamed herself for the events and, as she began to have trouble controlling her empathy, she began to drink heavily and smoke more to numb her mind against the emotions of others. Shishiwakamaru had met with her soon after moving to the Ningenkai, and had gained respect for her and was disappointed by her self-destructive habits. He offered to train her to use her ki and shield her mind if she stopped drinking and smoking. Shizuru agreed, and her training began. At the same time, she began to teach Jin how to cook in order to help him get a job.

In early June, before Yuusuke had been recovered, Toguro Ani, who had somehow escaped the tree, came looking for a body. Shizuru was the person he went after, since she was a relatively-untrained human with strong reiki. She managed to contact Shishiwakamaru and Jin, who saved her, retreating to Genkai’s with injuries. Ani continued to attack, but they eventually defeated him using Shishiwakamaru’s Bakutodokushokusou attack. Before they defeated him, however, Jin spiked Shishiwakamaru’s tea as a joke, and he ended up flirting with Shizuru, who became aware that she had developed a crush on him, though she later realized it was really due to her emotional state at the time.

They didn’t leave Genkai’s until mid-September, since it took that long to defeat Ani and for the fighters to heal. It was while they were staying at the temple that Touya came to the Ningenkai. He had a great admiration for Shishiwakamaru, bordering on stronger emotions. He started staying with Shishiwakamaru and Jin, and he landed a job in an ice cream shop. Also, Itsuki had come to assist the tantei with Ani and was slowly becoming the object of affection for Botan, who still nurses a lingering crush on Yuusuke. This was perpetuated by Jin and Shizuru's teasing. She denied it, though not very adamantly.

In late September, the entire group decided to go to Sunrise 60 to attend an ice cream exhibit. Strange things happened, resulting in Shizuru’s realization that Touya probably had feelings for Shishiwakamaru. Shizuru became confused about the nature of her relationship with Shishiwakamaru, and she confided in Botan, then came to the decision that it was better to simply be friends with him. It was around this time that she got a job bartending.

In November, Botan went back to the Reikai to try to talk to KoEnma (everyone was angry with him for not doing or saying anything when Yuusuke was kidnapped by Karasu). This accomplished nothing, as KoEnma was content in continuing to be a prat. At this point, she decided that she was going to stay in the Ningenkai. Hinageshi joined Sayaka and Botan in the Ningenkai as KoEnma became more unbearable.

Following this, things settled down for a while until the Christmas party, during which Yuusuke spiked the punch without anyone’s knowledge. Shishiwakamaru became inebriated because of this. He ended up whispering sweet nothings to Touya and kissing him, which resulted in Touya coming to a realization regarding his feelings, though he hid them. Shishiwakamaru was embarrassed by the whole event and apologized profusely. They discussed it briefly, and then pretended nothing had happened.

In early January of 2004, the Kyuutai no Akurei Ochitsuku went missing from the Reikai. This artifact was extremely important, as it was a magical orb used to keep spirits calm during processing. KoEnma expected the tantei to find it, and they agreed to help despite their annoyance with him. Hinageshi saw the thieves and followed them, only to end up being kidnapped. The tantei saved Hinageshi and recovered the Kyuutai no Akurei Ochitsuku, once again averting disaster in the Reikai.

It was around this time that Koto and Juri came to the Ningenkai, though they came separately. Koto established herself relatively easily, though Juri had more problems, as the apartment she moved into had a poltergeist that attached itself to her. Touya ended up looking for Juri and helping her learn her way around town, for which she was very grateful. Suzuki moved to the Ningenkai soon afterward and ended up living with Juri. He was at odds with Shishiwakamaru for a while, but they ironed out their differences and have come to a sort of truce on various matters, especially Shishiwakamaru’s ability and right to live his life as he wishes without interference on Suzuki’s part.

Immediately following this, Shizuru’s boss at the bar tried to rape her. She managed to get away, but was very shaken by it. She ended up staying for several nights with Botan, who calmed her down and then went after the guy with a baseball bat. When Shishiwakamaru found out about it, he killed the man, which upset Shizuru and led to a brief falling-out between them that resulted in Shishiwakamaru recommending that she go to Genkai for training--though that was also in part because she wields reiki and he wields youki, and training her further with this difference would have been difficult, if not impossible. Around this time, Botan tried to make Itsuki aware of her feelings and was politely rebuffed. She decided that friends was better than nothing and gave up romantic intentions with little hope of ever achieving anything in that vein. Itsuki grew more attached to Botan as a friend, also.

The poltergeist in Juri’s apartment began to cause major problems, resulting in Suzuki moving out and Juri saying at Genkai’s with an injury. Kurama and Hinageshi realized that the poltergeist was giving off a Meikai ki signature, but they weren’t sure what to do about it, or if it had any significance.

Rinku got sick of the Makai at this point and came to the Ningenkai as well, and Suzuki allowed him to stay at his apartment. At the same time, Koenma convinced his father to let him come to the Ningenkai, where he ended up becoming a busboy at a restaurant, which taught him a rather large lesson in humility. Touya was fired because he lost control of his powers and froze a room just before his boss walked in, so he started job-hunting.

Around Valentine’s Day, Juri developed a crush on Touya, who had been very kind to her ever since she’d arrived in the Ningenkai. She decided to get him a valentine, and all of the girls banded together to make and buy treats for their male friends. On Valentine’s Day, the girls met at the coffee shop where Juri worked. Minions of the Meikai appeared and, with the help of the Meikai poltergeist, captured the girls.

Touya was supposed to meet Juri afterwards so she could give him the valentine she’d made for him, but by the time he got there, they were gone and the shop was in shambles, looking as though a struggle had taken place. Touya immediately summoned the others and they sifted through the wreckage, looking for clues, as it was obvious that the girls had been taken against their will. Shishiwakamaru found a note that the Meikai had left, informing them that they were to participate in a tournament or the girls would be killed.

There was no choice but to follow the instructions, so they hurried to the tournament location, where Itsuki joined them. Karasu had received word about the tournament as well, and he made arrangements with the Meikai so he and Kuronue could participate. He was anxious to use the tournament as a possible way to get ahold of Kurama. A battle schedule was created by the Meikai when they arrived, and they were informed that they would be allowed to choose one of the captives as their own when they won the first-round battle.

The first battle was Shishiwakamaru versus Touya. They battled seriously, but they were not fighting to kill. After an intense fight, Touya gained the victory after he partially encased Shishiwakamaru in ice. However, when he removed the ice, Shishiwakamaru didn’t revive. It was then that they were told that the losers of the battles automatically died. Touya was overcome by grief. He chose to save Juri.

The second battle was Hiei versus Kuwabara. Kuwabara fought hard, as he was trying to save Shizuru, but he was no match for Hiei. Hiei went easy on him, seeming reluctant to battle Kuwabara seriously. Kuwabara was felled after several blows to the head from the hilt and flat of Hiei’s katana. Hiei saved Yukina, but he felt very guilty about having killed Kuwabara.

The next day started off with Karasu battling Rinku, who didn’t have a chance. Karasu enjoyed the battle, as he saw that Rinku, once fully grown, would be a beautiful fighter. Karasu chose to “save” Shizuru. He treated the injuries she had received in the struggle at the coffee shop--cuts on her arms from flying glass. His method of treatment, which involved licking the wound to activate the medication he was using, disturbed her. He was very intrigued once he found out that Sakkyou had been interested in her, and he enjoyed terrorizing her.

The second battle of the day was Kurama versus Kuronue. It was a splendid, long battle that ended with Kuronue’s defeat, which pleased Karasu, as he wanted Kurama to advance to possibly battle him. Kurama rescued Hinageshi, whose wounds he treated, as she had been injured during their capture.

The third day started off with Jin battling a lightning-wielding Meikai demon. After a somewhat difficult and painful battle, he caught the demon in his own trap and won. He saved Koto.

The second battle of the day was Itsuki versus another Meikai demon, which used paralyzing energy attacks. Itsuki was outmatched and fell, blacking out as the demon strangled him. The Meikai demon chose Botan, who he carried off and to whom he did very bad things.

In the last battle of the first round, Suzuki and Yuusuke battled. By this point, Suzuki was upset over the losses of Shishiwakamaru and Rinku. He fought, but gave up in the middle of battle, as he believed that it was more important for one of the tantei to win because no one would miss him (incidentally, he was wrong; Juri was very upset about his death). Yuusuke vowed to fight to win, and he saved his childhood friend, Keiko.

This ended round one of the tournament. Sayaka was the only one left, and she was to be a prize to the winner of the tournament, who would gain possession of all the girls. This was an incentive for the tantei to continue fighting, though a somewhat unnecessary one, as Botan and Shizuru were both in the hands of enemies.

The second round began on day four with Karasu battling Hiei. It became apparent early on that Hiei was at a severe disadvantage, partly because he underestimated Karasu and forgot that Karasu’s bombs could be invisible to the naked eye if he wished. Hiei opened his Jagan, but it was too late for it to make any difference. The battle came to a bloody, explosive end with Karasu as the victor, and he acquired Yukina by default.

Kurama and Jin battled next, but Jin was morose following the deaths of three of his friends and his heart was not in the battle. He made several mistakes during the battle and ended up losing as Kurama thrust a bamboo spear through his stomach. Before Jin succumbed to darkness, he spoke with Kurama briefly and came to terms with his impending death, reassured by the prospect of being reunited with his dead friends. Kurama felt guilty and angry over his death.

The final battle of the day was to be Yuusuke versus Touya but, by this time, Touya had lost all of his closest friends. He no longer wanted to fight, nor did he have the physical and mental strength to, and he didn’t particularly want to live without them. He held a short conversation with Yuusuke, and then forfeited the match, essentially committing suicide. This upset Juri quite a bit, and those girls who were free leaned on each other for emotional support, with Hinageshi trying to be the strong one.

The third round began the next day, starting with Karasu’s battle with the Meikai demon. Karasu pretty much destroyed the demon completely, very soon into the battle. He gained possession of Botan, who was actually better-off for it, since Karasu had no sexual interest in her. Later that night, he discovered that she was injured and treated her wounds.

Kurama battled Yuusuke next. The battle was intense, with both of them fighting hard. Kurama ultimately defeated Yuusuke, whose last request was for him to get revenge for Hiei. Kurama was shaken by Yuusuke’s death, and by the fact that he would be battling Karasu in the final round, but he remained calm, helping Hinageshi by allowing her to vent for the first time since the tournament began. She became exhausted following her emotional outburst and fell asleep in Kurama’s room.

The sixth day marked the final round of the tournament, in which Kurama was to battle Karasu. However, Karasu had other plans. He offered Kurama a proposition: exchange himself for Karasu’s forfeit, and he wouldn’t kill the girls. As he had placed bombs around Shizuru, Yukina, and Botan, fully intending to kill them if Kurama refused, there was no other choice. Kurama agreed to the proposition. Karasu put the collar that he had used on Yuusuke on him before retrieving Kuronue’s body and leaving.

As it turned out, the others were not really dead. They had simply been placed in stasis in order to lower the winners’ morale and make them more likely to lose. Since the Meikai had lost the tournament, the “dead” were revived and began recovering so they could go after Karasu to save Kurama.

During recovery, Shishiwakamaru and Touya realized their mutual affection for one another. A sober kiss took place, and they may actually establish a relationship. Juri and Suzuki are fighting a lot, as Suzuki has realized that he has feelings for Juri and she has a crush on Touya. Shizuru got a new job at a pet store, and she’s trying to help Botan recover, though she’s having difficulty since Botan is in denial about what happened, though she is morose instead of being her overly genki self. She invited KoEnma to live with herself, Sayaka and Hinageshi under the condition that he apologize to Sayaka and behave.

Kurama fought Karasu in captivity for the first week or so, but he lost the battle. He did not know that his friends were still alive, and so he believed that he would not be rescued. He was too badly injured to attempt an escape. He gave up after a while and allowed his body to respond as it would while his mind remained somewhat detached. Karasu eventually forced him to post a journal entry. Afterward, he was allowed to check his friends list, when he discovered that the others had not been killed. This was too much for him to handle, and he slipped into a catatonic state.

That is where the storyline is now. Tune in to the journals for more!
